NOKIAN SMART UHP SILICA

The tread contains the Nokian Intelligent UHP Silica blend, which marvellously combines rubber molecular chains and silica particles. This alliance proves to be incredibly powerful and elastic, perfect for extreme use at high speeds. The rubber mix demonstrates its fine qualities flawlessly across a very diverse range of temperatures. The grip on wet ground remains optimal whether it's during a cool early spring morning or a warm autumn evening, the quality of the drive is constant and pleasant regardless of the circumstances.

PURIFIED OILS

Low aromatic content purified oils are making their debut in the tyre industry thanks to Nokian Tyres, a pioneer in the field of ecology. The manufacturing of a Nokian tyre does not involve the addition of any toxic or carcinogenic chemical compounds. The use of purified oils does not detract from the tyre's safety qualities, such as grip on wet ground, regardless of the weather conditions.

Silent Groove Design

The sides of the longitudinal blocks feature half-sphere cavities, similar to golf balls, which control air flow: this is the innovative Silent Groove Design technology that makes driving more comfortable and quiet by stopping the noise emitted by the edges of the radial grooves and preventing the generation of sudden whistling. As a result, there is less noise inside the vehicle and less rolling noise outside. Silent Groove Design also reduces the heating of the tire surface, by presenting less air resistance, which enhances the tire's resistance to erosion and allows for more kilometers to be driven.

STITCHED GROOVES

Summer roads become more dangerous when rain occurs. A sudden thunderstorm significantly increases the chances of losing control of the vehicle, especially due to the loss of tyre grip and skidding on a significant film of water. To minimize the risks of aquaplaning even in the most unusual conditions, Nokian Tyres has added siped grooves to its summer tyres to improve grip on wet roads. These siped grooves are located in the main transverse channels that score the inner shoulder. These elliptical notches have the capacity to store a maximum amount of water present between the ground and the tyre, to ensure adequate grip regardless of the wear progress: the volume of the siped ribs, which are wider at the bottom than at the top, then tends to increase.

CROSS-BLOCK LAMELLA

The central zone blocks feature Cross-Block sipes with different actions. The Cross sipes on the outside define a more rigid bead ensuring stability in all situations. The Cross sipes on the inside, on the other hand, allow for a softer ground contact for less rolling resistance and reduced rolling noise. Beveled in relation to the bead, the inclination of the Cross sipe has been given special attention, as has the volume of the groove.
In rainy conditions, these sipes play a dual role against the risk of aquaplaning. They help to store water and optimize its drainage in the main grooves.

DOUBLE PAD SUPPORT

The outer shoulder of the tyre features a dual block support concept. This activates as soon as the driving becomes more intense, providing more precision to the driver by stiffening the tyre pattern when the blocks position against each other. When the driving is ordinary, this dual block support system does not activate, thus the rolling resistance is lower which in turn reduces energy consumption.
On the other hand, driving stability is also enhanced by the 20-degree angle of the rib sidewalls, which support the tyre's shoulder areas. This is particularly noticeable when the vehicle is trying to avoid an obstacle, approaches a curve, or simply changes lanes.

NOKIAN ARAMID SIDE

Are you familiar with discontinuous aramid fibers? This material is well-known in the aerospace and military industries for its extreme strength. The aramid fibers contained in the rubber of the sidewalls provide immense robustness, allowing them to best overcome various alterations, especially cuts.

HYDRO GROOVES

The longitudinal ribs feature deep diagonal grooves. These Hydro grooves are an innovation to combat the risks of aquaplaning. They can draw more water caught between the tire and the road and channel it into the wide circumferential grooves, stabilizing the tire's behavior on wet roads. Safety is thus greatly improved in rainy conditions.

TREAD WEAR AND AQUAPLANING INDICATOR

The wear indicator (DSI) allows one to voluntarily check the condition of their tyre by simply measuring the depth of the grooves. The tread features a row of numbers that gradually fade as the tyre rubber wears down, thus indicating the remaining rubber thickness.
The tyre's central block includes another indicator, which warns of increased aquaplaning risks. The disappearance of the drop from this aquaplaning indicator signals when the remaining groove depth falls below 4mm.

SMOOTHED MAIN GROOVES

If the longitudinal grooves of the tire are smoothed out, it's not just a matter of aesthetics. They allow water to be evacuated very quickly, thus enabling more water to be received from the secondary grooves located on the ribs, whose open mouth has been optimized to achieve a higher volume and effectively prevent the risk of aquaplaning.

THE MULTILAYER STRUCTURE

The concept of multi-layer structures allows for the incorporation of several rubber compounds, thereby enhancing various characteristics of the tyre. At the tread level, the first layer, Nokian Intelligent UHP Silica, has properties suited for heavy use and high speeds, ensuring sensitive driving in all situations. Below that, the second layer features an original blend with molecularly light nanosilica, which speeds up the transmission of directional changes. Even further down, the rubber compound of the third layer offers exceptional stiffness, reducing rolling resistance and tyre heating. This results in better resistance to wear, lower vehicle fuel consumption, and a reduction in harmful emissions to the environment.

TWIN TRAC SILICA

The Nokian Twin Trac Silica rubber compound includes both natural rubber, silica particles, and canola oil. This combination ensures the tire has optimized grip whether the road is covered in snow or just wet. At the forefront of rubber compounds, the innovative Twin Trac Silica also gives the tire more driving stability and increases its resistance to road hazards. Its remarkable grip qualities in winter conditions are maintained even with temperature changes and during long journeys, thanks to the significant amount of rubber and canola oil used. Moreover, the tire's very low rolling resistance leads to a significant reduction in fuel consumption.

INFO ZONE

The location and pressure indicators present in the Info area on the side of a tyre allow for the recording of important constants for safety. Correct inflation pressure and location during mounting are now joined by the torque of the bolts on alloy rims. From a safety perspective, it is indeed crucial to know the correct torque as well as to retighten them after 100 to 200 kilometres.

SHOULDER SUPPORT

From the circumferential groove lining the shoulder, it is reinforced by lateral grooves forming a 20-degree angle. These grooves give the tire enhanced road holding in curved lines as well as understeer, turning, when the vehicle changes alignment or even in case of skidding.
