The history of MRF is truly impressive. What started as a small rubber balloon factory with a capital of 14,000 rupees in the 1940s is today a multi-billion rupee enterprise, producing high-quality tyres used in India and across the world, while diversifying into various sectors such as paints and coatings, toys, motorsports, and cricket equipment. MRF began in a modest shed in Madras, where KM Mammen Mappillai created the first rudimentary toy balloon manufacturing unit in 1946. It was only in 1952 that he changed direction to venture into the manufacture of tread rubber. This marked the beginning of its spectacular rise to the status of an undisputed leader in the tyre industry. By the early 60s, MRF was exporting its quality tyres to foreign distributors in many countries, and soon the company established its international presence in 65 different countries - with tyre production in 8 facilities spread over more than 180 hectares, and a strong network of over 4000 dealers and 180 different offices. MRF is recognised for its commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction. It has won the JD Power award 12 times so far. It has also received the TNS and CAPEXIL awards, which recognise the most trusted tyre manufacturer in India. MRF's passion for motorsport is evident through its involvement in racing, karting, rallies, and various events. Its team has won the prestigious Asia-Pacific Rally Championship twice, and in international championships, the FIA-homologated MRF karting tyres are the preferred choice of competitors.
